Ice Cream Bridal Shower

What better way to end the summer than an ice cream social!

This was a great themed shower and would also be perfect for birthday parties or baby showers.

The Invitation

The easiest way to create a silhouette template like this ice cream cone is to search for a picture online, hold up a piece of white paper to the computer screen, trace and cut it out.

Use adhesive cardstock to make the cone and ice cream, it is so much easier than a glue stick!

A very simple shower

My favorite parts are the invitations, banner and flower arrangement.

I bought the flowers at a local grocery store, the cone cup at a garage sale and I placed the flowers in one of those green spongy things for flowers that you can get at craft stores.

I also bought these cups at a garage sale and decided to use the creamer dishes for chocolate syrup and caramel sauce.

Ice cream cone balloons.  I learned this from pinterest.  Roll up construction paper and tape it on to balloons to look like ice cream cones.

One of the favors:  a cookie cutter.

I bought Neapolitan and vanilla ice cream.  Overall, I think that the party was a success!

Back to School Again!

Well, I haven't had a chance to craft all summer and finally here is my tiny project that took me less than 20 minutes and 1 dollar:

Bathroom Pass

Of course there had to be some English on the pass too so other teachers can understand what it is.

I went to Michael's tonight and bought this little wooden plaque for 50 cents

1.  Trace black adhesive cardstock and stick it onto the wood

2.  Stick letters onto the cardstock

3.  Cover with a layer of Mod Podge

4.  Use a staple gun to attach the ribbon to the back

5.  Hang in your classroom!

SO EASY!

Summer Project!

I will be in grad school for most of the summer, but I think I could try to fit in a project or two.  I would like to do knock-off versions of these two necklaces:

If you create your own versions reply to this post!  I would love to see what other people come up with!

Genesis 1:3

This summer I will be attending Middlebury College and will not be allowed to speak English, only Spanish.  So, I thought I'd get a head start.  This picture is from Erie, PA.

Thank You For the Music

My sister has been pinning a lot of musical quotes and pictures on Pinterest.  She also created a few herself (http://dotfrye.tumblr.com/).   I have found that I really love making these and this is my second.  This picture is of me at a dance recital in high school.  The lyrics are from Mama Mia!

Here is the first:  http://srasaysso.blogspot.com/2012/06/genesis-13.html

I just used Paint and Microsoft Word to edit this photo.

This is a great way to digitally scrapbook photos and to remember special places and times.  Dancing was very important to me and I'm hoping to dance again very soon.

Try creating your own quote and photo!

Arroz a la Cubana

You may be thinking to yourself that this dish looks a little strange.  It is one of the simplest, quickest dinners I can make.

This is a recipe my Spanish host mother used to make for me while I studied in Barcelona, Spain.

It is what it looks like:  White instant rice, tomato sauce, a fried egg and a fried banana.

Here is my version:

I would give the presentation a B but I give the taste an A.  Try it, you may be surprised!

Updated Cabinet

A while ago I blogged about an old cabinet that I got from my grandma.  I finally updated it!  I'm not sure if it is completely finished but I'm very happy with the result.
